You sure can! You'll get a certificate after you demonstrate that you participated in the event that you can use as proof of attendance for any governing or licensing body that you're tracking for. (Yes, you have to engage in the content, not just pay the ticket price - but I promise, you'll want to!)  

But what if I'm CCC-SLP and I neeeeeeed CEUs?!?!

I have amazing news: if you are ASHA certified, you CAN count this! It counts towards your CMHs via self-documentation. We're just not making you pay extra for conveniently-but-expensively-tracked CEUs!

A little more info:

There's an urban legend going around that unless it's marked "ASHA CEU", it doesn't count. This is so totally not true. Lots of things can count towards renewing your CCCs! To maintain your CCCs, you just need to document CMHs = Certification Maintenance Hours. ASHA CEUs are just a type of CMH that's pre-approved by ASHA. Sure, they're convenient; if you pay extra, they're automatically populated into your registry. BUT WHY WOULD YOU PAY EXTRA?!

CMHs don’t have to be ASHA-approved!  And you don't even need to ask ASHA what will count; just check this list. Just don't forget to keep track of the CMHs you've done; either digitally and/or with paper records. After The Power of Voice wraps, just stash your certificate and receipt as proof of attendance just in case you're audited in the future, and wham! CMHs galore!!

FOR SLPs IN CANADA:

No, yeah - you can totally count them! Ok, that's the short answer. The medium answer is it depends on your province - some regulatory bodies have caps on types of continuing ed hours. Just make sure you double-check your regulatory body’s requirements to make sure there are no restrictions or limitations to using POV hours.

If you're gunning for the SAC Professional Interests designation, you just need 20 additional hours in your area of interest over 3 years, and there's no limit by category. That means that you'll get half those hours at this year's POV alone!

FOR SLPs IN THE UK:

POV definitely counts! CPD courses outside of the UK can absolutely be used as long as they meet your individual CPD requirements. The RCSLT suggests you objectively review any continuing ed to determine if it's evidence-based, if it fits your individual CPD needs, and if you can reflect on what you've learned and can consider how you're going to use it in your current practice. RCSLT members wanting more information on CPD (including what can be counted) can click here.

FOR SLPs IN AUSTRALIA:

Does POV count? Nah, yeah! Keep track in SPA’s Continuing Professional Education Record and check the Certification Program Guide to find codes for different activities. Just remember: you can only count time when “you have learnt something new, or your current skills or knowledge have been strengthened or enhanced through these activities.” Don't forget to keep record of how much time you spent learning new things at POV!

Tickets are non-refundable, but don't worry! If something comes up and you can't attend live, just by registering in advance, you'll have access to recordings afterwards! You'll have 90 days to catch up - and you can do it from the comfort of your living room! We recommend stretchy pants and a glass of your favourite beverage!

I totally get it. Everything around us feels like it's still changing by the minute. It's hard enough to plan for later today let alone weeks from now! This way, if you want to revisit a session for a closer listen, or if you missed anything because (insert unexpected thing here), you'll be able to watch again at your leisure!

Listen. I really really just love one thing. And that's voice. As a professional performer, I ran into trouble with my own voice and I needed a team approach - but I didn't know it at the time. As a high school performing arts teacher, I needed better strategies - ones I thought I was implementing already, but I didn't have the perspective to see how my environment was contributing to my problems. As a voice teacher, I didn't know how to explain what I just knew "worked", and it was frustrating - it made it hard to be able to consistently repeat my successes.  As a voice therapist, I am constantly reminded of the human element that is so inextricable from the voice. As someone who is constantly working on their own voice, I know just how much goes into the sounds we create and what informs our capacity to create the sounds we want to.
