This workshop is 1 hour with time for questions and discussion following the experiential and interactive presentation. Following the live workshop, we'll send an email with a link to a short quiz; completing the quiz and earning at least 80% or higher is all that's needed to receive a certificate of participation. Save that as documentation when you're recording this workshop as continuing education towards any licensure or certification maintenance.
Here is some info for some of the license or certification maintenance requirements you may be hoping this qualifies for:
SAC CEEs
SAC Certified members must complete 45 continuing education equivalents (CEEs) over their 3-year cycle. These CEEs can be in any of the CEE activity categories to allow flexibility and encourage members to pursue a range of professional development. This workshop can be documented as 1 CEE under Category 1, Education Activities.
CASLPO CLACs
Ontario SLPs who are CASLPO-registered are required to document CLACs - Continuous Learning Activity Credits. Per CASLPO's website, "You must obtain at least 15 CLACs for each calendar year; CLACs must relate to one of your Learning Goals; one hour’s learning activity equals one CLAC; there are two CLAC categories, Group Learning and Independent Learning and there are no limits on the number of CLACs for either category".
This workshop is therefore worth 1 CLAC (or 1.25 if we happen to go long in the question period!) for the purposes of the CASLPO SAT.
Hot tip: you can always edit your CASLPO goals when it comes time to document your CLACs to ensure the continuing education experience you actually accrued is in alignment with your goals!
ASHA CCC-SLP MAINTENANCE QUALIFICATION
Heads up - because we're about to dispel some myths right now!
Per ASHA's own information, "Individuals must accumulate 30 professional development hours (PDHs) during each 3-year interval to maintain their certification and submit a Certification Maintenance Compliance Form as verification", defining further that "A PDH is 60 minutes spent in a professional development activity as a learner and participant. PDHs are accumulated through participation in non-ASHA CEU activities for the purpose of maintaining your CCC.
PDHs are calculated as follows: 3.0 continuing education units (CEUs) = 30 PDHs..."
WAIT. WHAT'S THAT?! I don't necessarily need CEUs?!?!
That's right. In order to maintain certification, you need Professional Development Hours (PDHs), of which some - those certified by ASHA after the providers cough up the cash - are formally called "CEUs". CEU is just ASHA's term for PDHs they've vetted for you. In order to have them tracked as official ASHA-stamped CEUs, you have to pay the $25 to their Registry, and often times, you'll also pay a fee for the continuing ed provider to send your info along to the Registry as well.
So unless you need the ASHA ACE Award specifically (which you can only get by paying for the Registry and counting CEUs specifically), you don't NEED to get CEUs - you just need PDHs! And they cost nothing extra because you document them yourself!
This Workshop may be counted as 1 PDH. Certified clinicians may track and self-report this PDH to fulfill the professional development requirements of certification maintenance. Save your certificate after the workshop for your records as documentation and you're all set!
ASHA's DEI and ETHICS CERTIFICATION MAINTENANCE REQUIREMENTS
This Workshop may also be counted toward ASHA's Ethics and DEI certification maintenance professional development requirement per the Council for Clinical Certification in Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology (CFCC) and ASHA's Professional Development Requirements for the Audiology & SLP Certification Standards.
Note: You may count a portion of this course (e.g., 30 minutes) toward the Ethics requirement and the remaining time toward the DEI requirement OR you may count the full 1 hour of PDH toward either individual requirement. You may not count the same block of time toward both requirements.
CONTINUING EDUCATION DOCUMENTATION
Your certificate of attendance may be used as acceptable documentation for the purposes of ASHA CCC-SLP maintenance and to fulfill both the Ethics and DEI professional development requirements. You must manually report any continuing education you take toward the DEI requirement on your compliance form regardless of whether you participate in the ASHA CE Registry or not. Retain documentation for all PDHs taken; only individuals who are chosen for the maintenance audit need to submit their Record Keeping Form [PDF] and documentation of professional development activities within 60 days of being notified.
It goes without saying that you're still responsible for ensuring continuing education meets your specific requirements, and you're also responsible for documenting your attendance. But we've hopefully made both as easy as possible!
